Veronica Cretu

Veronica Cretu is an expert in Public Policy, AI4GOV and Data for Development, a special representative (Envoy) of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), a member of the Council of Europe’s Committee on Artificial Intelligence, and co-founder of the Moldova4EU Diaspora Task Force Austria. With over 25 years of experience, she has actively promoted reforms in areas such as open governance, open data, data governance, internet governance, artificial intelligence, civil society development, and gender equality across the EU, EaP, Central Asia, West and South-Est Africa. 

Her academic background includes a Master’s in Artificial Intelligence for the Public Sector from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and Milan, with a thesis focused on Data Governance Maturity for Leveraging AI in the Public Sector (2024). She also holds a Master’s in Contemporary Diplomacy (2014) from the University of Malta, where her thesis focused on the Role of Diplomatic Missions in the Open Government Agenda. She earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Diplomacy and IT, specializing in Internet Governance, from the University of Malta. Her undergraduate thesis centered on the investment climate in the Republic of Moldova and the role of information and communication technology (2005). In 2000, she graduated from the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Ion Creangă Pedagogical University in Chișinău. 

Since 2018, Veronica has been based in Vienna, where she applies her expertise both regionally and globally, while remaining deeply engaged in supporting Moldova's development and European integration processes. She is a strong advocate for diaspora engagement in policy dialogue and advocacy efforts, contributing to strengthening democratic governance and advancing EU integration objectives.
